The word chiropractic is of Greek derivation and, literally translated, means "done by hand". Chiropractic is a system of therapy that helps maintain a patient's health and well-being through spinal manipulation to treat subluxations. A spinal manipulation involves adjusting the vertebrae in the spinal column. Additional therapeutic procedures may include the use of deep tissue stretching, massage, traction, active release technique, ice and heat. The chiropractic approach to patient care recognizes that many factors affect health, including exercise, diet, rest, environment and heredity.
What is a subluxation?
A subluxation is a condition in which different vertebrae in your spine are either rotated or tilted. This results in pinched nerves or inflammation which can then trigger other symptoms through out the body. Back pain, neck pain, head aches, numbness, tingling, tension, tight muscles... the list goes on and on!
For instance, if you have pain or numbness radiating down your leg, it could be the result of a subluxation in the low back and/or hip joint which could apply pressure on your sciatic nerve causing the pain and tingly sensation down your leg. Many aches or pains through out the body are caused by subluxated spines. Chiropractic care is the most cost effective form of diagnosis and treatment available. It is non-invasive and an efficient use of your time.
